What is a Dental Bridge?

These oral appliances are prosthetics that contain the correct number of pontics, or artificial teeth, to replace one or more that went missing in a row. Unlike partial dentures, which clip to your teeth with metal clasps, these contain two dental crowns on each end that can anchor to healthy abutment teeth or implants on either side of the gap in your grin.

Like many other restorations, they’re usually made from resilient porcelain or resin that can be color-matched to look like your natural grin, so no one can tell the difference.

Types of Dental Bridges

Almost anyone with missing teeth can potentially get a dental bridge, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best treatment for every circumstance. Before proceeding, you must consult with Dr. Elsaid to make certain that no existing concerns, like cavities or gum disease, interfere with the results.

If she determines that you’re a good candidate, she’ll recommend one of the following options based on her findings:

Traditional Dental Bridge

A traditional dental bridge has the required number of pontics set between dental crowns that will be cemented to healthy teeth on both sides of the space in your smile. For it to fit properly, our team will gently remove some of the enamel from the abutment teeth. This ensures that your restoration won’t look bulky or awkward once it's placed.

Implant Bridge

If your remaining teeth are unhealthy or damaged, we might recommend this alternative to the traditional type. Instead of anchoring to abutment teeth, two dental implants will be surgically placed on both sides of the gap to serve as attachment posts. They also function like roots to activate your jawbone to prevent its gradual deterioration after tooth loss.

The Benefits of Getting a Dental Bridge

There are many advantages to getting a dental bridge in Parsippany, including:

  • Preserve your oral health. Your teeth are prone to drifting out of place to fill empty slots, which can unevenly wear down your enamel and increase the likelihood of cavities or gum disease. Once your bridge is placed, they’re sure to stay put.
  • Boost your confidence. People with dental issues tend to feel more depressed and anxious because of the condition of their smile. Rebuilding it can help you look and feel like your best self.
  • Improved abilities. Prosthetics allow you to chew food and converse more easily.
  • Long lifespan. They can last 10+ years if cared for correctly, making them an excellent long-term option.
  • Easy to clean. To maintain your dental bridge, continue brushing and flossing twice daily and schedule a checkup with our team every six months.
